What can I say about Renys...born and raised a Mainer for 33 years, which is how long I've shopped here. It never gets boring, great name brand clothing!
I have to say that it is okay. (Which means two stars.)
Renys, a Maine adventure! A local Maine favorite rife with deals. And everything you could ever really need. Great place to find quality brand names like woolwich, acorn. Carhartt. Large selection of Bob's Red Mill goods. Renys has it all, from clothing to cards to home goods. Convenient downtown location.
I only go here for essentials, which they do often have. But if I ever need to buy anything more than some socks or a box to store my books, I'll go to a decent store. I highly suggest ignoring those that love it just because it is solely based in Maine. They're being very irrational.
I decided to rate it because today I stopped by on my way to the library downtown. Yeah, they have great deals on some basics that I know I might want to grab sometime: a belt, undergarments, socks, household supplies, etc. But when I was looking at their shirts and pants it was not in any decent order whatsoever. Looked like decent deals, but I couldn't find sizes properly sorted.
Downtown department store with a five and dime feel. Just about anything you think you need. Clothing, shoes, coats, jeans, shirts, food, hardware, toys, games, and just about everything else. Friendly staff. Next door to Maine College of Art.
I did come across a couple items I thought I might try on. The changing room said no backpacks, which I understood. So I asked someone that was working near-by where I could leave mine. "Oh, just on the hook next to the door." Wait. What? You don't trust your clients because they may steal YOUR items, but you expect us to assume that others won't steal a bag that may contain computers, books, etc. from us? "Alright, no thank you then." Was my response, and I placed the clothing down and walked out. If a store worries that we may steal from them, then they should care for us to prevent other clients from stealing our belongings.
I do love Renys but the Portland store is so difficult!! Parking is terrible, and it doesn't seem to matter what day or time. I always find good things and great prices- and where else can you buy all chocolate necco wafers?? Other locations I'd give 5 stars, NOT Portland- unless you are walking or on bus line.
