We will definitely come back if we are in Portland again.
Good Hotel for short stay. It may not be modern and has a few wear & tear but the room was clean and for me that's what counts. Bed was very comfortable, fridge, microwave, free parking and breakfast not to mention a pool. For the price we paid lot of amenities. It's a good value for this hotel and people shouldn't really complain. Also, the restaurant staff were very friendly.
Stay was perfectly pleasant especially for the price and the convenience of the location right off the highway. The hotel is definitely a bit dated around the edges but not that bad really. I would say it feels like they are maintaining it rather than totally redesigning/renovating the building and that is perfectly fine. The room was clean aside from some dings and wear and tear, which obviously doesn't detract from sleeping. The sheets were clean, and the bed and pillows were actually very nice and comfortable and felt and looked new. The floor in the room was laminate fake wood instead of carpet, which is different but probably cleaner... A few other elements and fixtures looked like they had been updated in the last year or two as well. There was a slight musty smell, probably from the air handler (which had not been updated), but opening the window (why can't more hotels have windows that open) aired things out in short order. Overall a good stay. Based on some reviews when booking the hotel I was initially a little concerned what it would be like, but price, availability, and location trumped them. This is not the most glitzy hotel in Maine. However the staff and management seem to be doing a very respectable job for the market they are in. Now having stayed there I can say I would definitely go back and stay again, and that's really the best measure of a hotel.
The hotel staff is friendly and warm. They even give a wicked woopie pie treat on check in. Our first room was located facing the parking lot and high way. It was noisy, the beds were uncomfortable, and the paint was coming off the wall. We went to the service desk and even though the hotel was sold out they were able to find us a better room. The new room was quiet and faced the hotel courtyard. Overall our experience has been very good.
The service was fine, it was a hectic night with many events. The room was clean but the hallways seemed dark and dingy. The place over all was fine but man were those beds uncomfortable. The location is convenient to almost everything in the far Portland and Westbrook area which is why we ended up staying there.
We attempted to stay here — I say attempt because we booked two nights here while touring New England and figured the good reviews and relatively low nightly price was worth being off the main area. It wasn’t. The wallpaper was literally falling off the walls, the exhaust fan was so dusty, the sheets felt gross and were inside out, and the carpet needed pulled so it could be properly vacuumed. My husband and I both decided it was better to eat the ~250 non refundable cost of the two nights of the hotel room and stay somewhere else. We could both only stand about 5 minutes in the room. When we checked out the front desk employee didn’t seem surprised we had chosen to leave. She said that she knew some of the rooms are not great.
