Great service and stay. Stayed in a twin room with shared bathroom. It's basically a private hostel, no frills, room. The shower is small, the room is small and a bit outdated/dingy. But that said, everything is clean, the staff is very friendly, they have a nice assortment of breakfast foods and cookies throughout the day. There is free parking and downtown is just a short walk away. At the price, it's definitely a great stay.
Really cute historical Inn. Had a first floor room with in-room bathroom. I think it was the smallest of the bunch. Room was cute, smelled a bit damp. Bed was comfy but sheets felt polyester. Breakfast was good if you don't like protein in your diet. Scratchy bathrobes but that's not really important. It was part of our honeymoon and it was romantic feeling enough but being on the first floor next to an entrance it felt less than private. Would only stay again with a cheaper Rate like we had this time. Couldn't imagine paying for a shared bath room, just get an airbnb fir cheaper
The rooms are petite and appointed with simple, old-fashioned decor, however, I was comfortable for 1 night on my business trip.
It's hard to believe that the Inn at St. John was under $150 per night considered the wonderful customer service, clean furnishings and lovely historic experience. The hotel is conveniently located within a brisk 15 minute walk of Congress Street.
Excellent customer service, second to none! While being affordable with free parking and a buffet breakfast this gem is very close to the middle of the Old Port! With such excellent service it is a great place to visit. It is obvious the staff takes great pride in their work! I will definitely stay again when I am in Portland!

A breath of fresh air. No more sterile motels and so called inns. The rooms were excellent, sorry to here some whiners thought they were too small, but some people like to be bitches when it comes to reviews. Character, cosy, and clean is what matters. The Inn at St John has all three. The staff are the best. I have recommended this place to all my friends . Noted here is a sidebar with regard to jaded reviews. Mass-holes always find fault with something. My guess is that any negative viewpoint, regardless of weight, is coming from one of those jerks. Thanks for your hospitality.
Travelers will be impressed by the warmth and personable nature of the front desk staff. For example, I came back to the hotel from a long walk and was immediately greeted with a cold bottle of water! The staff also made excellent dinner recommendations.
